During Army carrier served at prestigious institutions like Army Hospital (Research and Referral) at Delhi and Professor of Ophthalmology at Armed Force Medical College ant that was the final Army destination. After joining Eye Hospital Sitapur transformed this sick unit to a vibrant eye hospital with large community volume and subspecialties. A recognized post graduate teacher and Examiner of Delhi, Pune, CSJM Kanpur, KGMU Lucknow and Maharashtra University of Health A versatile and accomplished anterior segment surgeon can perform high volume phaco-emulsification, cornea transplant trabeculectomy, Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV), squint correction, paediatric cataract & glaucoma surgery and oculo-plastic procedures with equal alacrity. Performing cornea transplant and Anterior Segment reconstructions for past 30 years but Special area of interest is glaucoma esp the newer diagnostics, AGV and lasers. Have presented research papers, videos and posters at American Academy of Ophthalmology, Asia ARVO and All India Ophthalmology Society Conferences (AIOS). Conducted Instruction Courses at Annual conference of AIOS & SAARC Ophthalmology Society Conferences. Live Surgical work shop of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve. A recognised PG teacher with vast teaching experience of over 21 yrs and examiner of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) and Pandit B D Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak. A keen researcher and have a number of research publications and presentations. Have published a textbook on ‘Ocular trauma in Armed conflicts’ which has been released worldwide by international publisher. Having served in Armed Forces also have vast experience in patient care, medical relief, personnel management, training, administration of office and hospital, procurement of stores, inventory management, planning and execution, infrastructure development, budget planning, expenditure, accounting, handling discipline matters and biomedical waste management. Right from initial days in Army has been actively involved in medical relief operations at all levels first as a relief provider as a young medical officer, followed by organizing medical relief as a senior administrator. In the initial years of service, has been actively involved in handling emergencies and providing trauma care to Armed Forces personnel involved in counter insurgency operations and to troops posted in border areas of the country. Also organized numerous medical camps and emergency medical relief to civil population along border areas not having access to medical facilities. Managed a 200 bedded district hospital single handedly for 36 days in Aug- Sep 1991 during strike of Assam state doctors for which was awarded Chief of Army staff commendation. Managed over 2000 cases of cholera during cholera epidemic in Assam during that duration. Later as a senior administrator in field in North East India, was actively involved in organizing medical cover to troops deployed in difficult terrain along Indo China border, ensuring timely onsite emergency treatment, evacuation and definitive treatment. Also involved in maintaining medical stores and equipment in functional state at all times, establishment of forward surgical centres, dug-in operation theatres and forward mobile hospitals and to maintain them in a state of battle readiness at all times. As an Ophthalmologist has been actively involved in providing high quality eye care for past 27 yrs involving highly specialized anterior segment services including corneal transplant, advanced phacoemulsification Cataract surgery, Femtosecond laser cataract surgery, Glaucoma, squint and Oculoplasty services. Have organized numerous screening eye camps over the years with follow-up surgeries in hospital operation theatres. Have managed number of cases of ocular trauma including open globe injuries in soldiers deployed in counter terrorist operations and has operated on them even at late hours at night to save vision thus boosting the morale of the fighting troops. Has vast experience in meticulously planning, implementing, modulating and evaluation of training programmes for post graduate-MS Ophthalmology course and Diploma in Optometry and Ophthalmic assistants course. Organized and conducted many local and national level continuing medical education (CME) programmes and conducted seminars, instruction courses in conferences and also presented numerous papers in various forums. Have meticulously planned and executed Military Civic medical aid programmes for rural population in far-flung areas and provided yeoman service to needy population thereby enhancing the image of Armed Forces. Has mentored young specialist doctors in improving their surgical skills and trained them in modern ophthalmic surgical procedures. Have made numerous presentations in various forums, has been a editor and reviewer of reputed medical journals and has published many research articles and a textbook titled ‘Ocular trauma in armed conflicts’ by Springer Publishers. |
